ABOUT

Georgia works with fiddle, voice, tenor guitar and drones to create crisp arrangements of old songs, and new compositions. Georgia is a critically acclaimed song writer, with self penned songs and traditional re-workings achieving national radio play on BBC radio 2, BBC radio 4, and a BBC 3 live session.

Georgia takes great influence from the traditional singers of the East of England such as Harry Cox, Walter Pardon and Phoebe Smith. Traditional material she performs often stems from her native East Anglia and her own compositions are often inspired by stories from the region and the areas unique, compelling landscape. Her solo album, ‘Harry’s Seagull’ is a celebration of East Anglian traditional music. The album is named after a tune she wrote and dedicated to Harry Cox, after the touching discovery that he kept a wounded seagull as a pet for a period of time.

Shackleton Trio:

Captivating songwriting and fiery tunes that combine mandolin, fiddle, guitar and banjo with powerful three part harmonies. The unmistakeable sound of The Shackleton Trio brings to life the stories of their native East Anglia, and beyond. ‘The Shackleton Trio’, who have been a tour de force on the UK and international folk circuit over the last 7 years, with BBC2, BBC3, BBC4 and BBC6 radio play, appearances on Cambridge Folk Festivals main stage, as well as numerous UK and international tours. www.shackletontrio.co.uk

The Shackleton Violin:

Georgia recently received support from Arts Council England to compose a body of work  to celebrate our struggling marine life, collaborating with conservationist and Luthier, Steve Burnett using his Shackleton Violin. This amazing instrument is made from floorboards salvaged from Ernest Shackleton’s former Edinburgh home, and driftwood collected from East Lothian beaches. Sign up to mailing list to receive updates on how the project is going, including recordings of songs written and sung on board Shackleton’s expeditions.

Ghost Stories by candlelight:

Georgia is currently collaborating with High Tide Theatre, as composer and musical director. Together they are creating a piece of environmentally conscious theatre which will tour East of England for 4 weeks in Autumn, finishing with 3 performances at Sam Wanamaker Playhouse at Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre.

A sea mist descends.

The hound howls.

Sodium street lights twitch.

A falcon soars above, on the hunt.

Gather close for a candlelit evening of chilling, contemporary tales and haunting new folk music from the ‘Witch Counties’ of East Anglia. What happens when the ghosts of the past creep up on us today?

Ghost Stories by Candlelight is written by Kelly Jones, Shamser Sinha and Nicola Werenowska.  With music and songs by Georgia Shackleton.  Directed by Elayce Ismail.

Kitewing:

Soaring harmonies and roaring fiddles combine with guitar, mandolin and banjo to play songs of the sea, migration and environmental struggle. The pulse of the natural world is the core of this band. Driving tune sets ad compelling instrumentals weave throughout the ‘Kitewing’ set, an act that unites to critically acclaimed UK groups ‘The Shackleton Trio’ and ‘Christina Alden & Alex Patterson’.

Both award winning bands have toured the UK, Europe and Scandinavia extensively, and collectively have achieved National radio play on BBC 2, BBC radio 4, BBC 3 live sessions, BBC 6 music and RTE 1. www.kitewingmusic.com
